Aromatic Bedtime Tea Blends for Stress Relief and Relaxation

Herbal tea blends containing healing herbs like sage, chamomile, holy basil, lavender and valerian root make for a relaxing and delicious bedtime tea. 

All herbs contain active ingredients which serve a specific function in the body.

Herbs found in bedtime tea blends contain active ingredients that reduce mental fatigue, stress and anxiety, while improving mental endurance and resilience. Some of them are even mildly sedative.

Throughout the day we are exposed to many sources of stress. All that stress puts body and mind into a permanent “alert mode”. 

But in the evening it is important to calm down the nervous system to be able to relax and fall asleep. That is of course easier said than done.

Luckily nature provided us with herbs whose aroma, flavor and composition is soothing for our overly excited nerves.

 

CALMING HERBS USED IN BEDTIME TEA BLENDS

These are the most common herbs used for bedtime tea blends. They are effective for treating current mental states and for maintaining overall mental health. 

Their main attribute is the ability to calm the mind. Only with a calm mind we are able to relax enough to have a healthy and restorative sleep.

CHAMOMILE

Although many avoid chamomile tea because they relate it with being ill. Chamomile is a valuable ingredient of a bedtime tea blends because of its sedative properties. Its sweet, floral aroma will put you to sleep in no time. 

VALERIAN ROOT

Valerian’s calming properties are well known. It is nature’s Valium. After a particularly tense and stressful day, sip on a valerian tea with your feet up and calming music in the background. You will feel the stress leaving your body.  

ASHWAGANDHA

In the east ashwagandha is known as used for centuries, but only recently it became popular in the rest of the world. Even though there is little medical research about its benefits, in ayurvedic medicine it is used as a treatment for stress, fatigue, anxiety and other related conditions.

SAGE

Sage is one of the strongest natural stress relievers. Deliciously sweet scent and taste will help you unwind and calm your feelings and mind. It has been known for centuries, and recent studies suggest the same, that consumption of sage can improve memory

LEMON BALM

Lemon balm tea has been used for centuries in folk medicine as a relaxant. It is used as a natural treatment for mild anxiety and sleep disturbances. This aromatic and calming herb will wash your worries away and prepare you for a night of sweet dreams.

LAVENDER

Lavender’s scent is known to be relaxing and soothing for the nerves, it even has a mild hypnotic effect. But do you know that tea made from dry lavender flower buds is equally if not more beneficial. Drinking lavender tea helps to reduce fatigue, improve mood and relax.

HOLY BASIL

Holy basil, also known as Tulsi, is therapeutic for the overworked nervous system. Tea is used to reduce stress and anxiety, promote mental health and resilience. It may relieve stress related headaches and improve sleep quality.

 

BEDTIME TEA BLENDS

7 aromatic bedtime tea blends whose combined aroma and benefits will relax and prepare you for a night of sweet dreams.

Amounts are for 1 cup of water. It’s always best to consume freshly brewed tea.

If you wish to make a bedtime tea latte, I suggest steeping tea in a 1/2 cup oat milk and 1/2 cup water blend. Add the sweetener of choice if needed.

Mediterranean Dream

Pour 1 cup of boiling water over herbs. Steep for 15 minutes. Strain the tea and enjoy.

 

Bye-bye Stress

Pour 1 cup of boiling water over herbs. Steep for 20 minutes. Strain the tea and enjoy.

 

Zingy Night

Pour 1 cup of boiling water over herbs and spices. Steep for 15 minutes. Strain the tea and enjoy.

 

Calm & Relax

Pour 1 cup of boiling water over ashwagandha and seeds. Steep for 15 minutes. Strain the tea and enjoy.

 

Stress Relief

Pour 1 cup of boiling water over herbs. Steep for 20 minutes. Strain the tea and enjoy.

 

Sweet Dreams

Place 1 cup of water and licorice root in the pot and bring to boil. Once it boils, remove from heat and add herbs. Steep for 20 minutes, covered. Strain the tea and enjoy. 

 

Warm Delight

Place 1 cup of water and licorice root in the pot and bring to boil. Once it boils, remove from heat and add chamomile, ashwagandha and spices. Steep for 15 minutes. Strain the tea and enjoy.
