Minimalist Christmas Decor Guide

minimalist christmas decor

Going for minimalist Christmas decor doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice all the Christmas festiveness. With thought-out simple and minimal decor you can create all the coziness and warmth characteristic to the season.

Minimalism is about being intentional with the things you own. It doesn’t necessarily mean you have the bare essentials for living and nothing else. Rather it means that every thing you own is meaningful to you and gives value to your life.

You don’t have to have 10 boxes labeled ˝Christmas stuff˝ to create a festive, Christmas atmosphere in your home.

While decorating, focus on essential elements that represent Christmas. Aim to fill the space mostly with perishable, natural or edible decorations. As well as durable things that don’t take up too much space or can be used outside of Christmas time.

The perfect way to make a room feel warm, cozy and festive is to use candles and lights. Small twinkly lights and flickering candles are the true essence of Christmas decor. Arrange clusters of candles throughout your home and hang lights above doors and windows.

Then move on to decorating bedrooms and living room with flannel/plaid textiles like blankets and pillowcases. All these give out warm and cozy vibe and can be used during both fall and winter season .

Go for a walk and forage the decorations like branches and cones that you can afterwards give back to nature.

Repurpose jars to use them as vases for branches and twigs to create rustic, wintry atmosphere.

Hang stockings and tie bows on knobs and handles. Put some festive magnets on the fridge. Decorate walls with posters and prints. All these things when stored take up very little space.

Use your edibles to decorate as a minimalist. Plate of cookies or a gingerbread house make a great centerpiece.

One more tip, choose a color palette of the decor that matches the colors you already have in your house, or opt for neutrals that go with everything.
