How to Use Positive Affirmations for Success in Life

Positive affirmations formulated in a way to induce a change in behavior will bring you success in chosen areas of your life. Your thoughts change your behavior and your behavior changes your life.

When you feel stuck in a rut without the smallest change in sight, it’s probably because your thought pattern is circling between negative self-talk and default thoughts.

Negative thoughts like “I can’t ___.” and “I am not ___ enough.” or “I don’t have ___.” are the biggest obstacles that stand between you and your success in life.

Default thoughts are even worse. They are usually self-centered, boring, and repetitive thoughts. They bring no value to your life, yet they occupy so much of your mental capacity.

Unless you deliberately decide to think about something your brain does its default jabber. And most of the time you are completely unaware of it.

While in other times you are aware of your thoughts but don’t really have anything to think about, so you just go with the flow of whatever comes up.

Now instead of wasting your precious brain space, you can try to use it to improve your life. By focusing your thoughts on positive affirmations for success.

What are Positive Affirmations for Success?

Positive affirmations for success are affirmative “I am” statements. They remove from your mind negative, self-sabotaging thoughts. And instead fill your consciousness with positive, growth-oriented thoughts.

You can look at affirmations as brain crunches. Just like crunches strengthen your abdominal muscles, in the same way, affirmations strengthen your belief in your own abilities.

Repetition of carefully designed affirmations will transform your consciousness.

Your transformed consciousness will give you the drive, that internal push, you need to move in the right direction.

To go from the place where you are now to the place where you want to be in life.

To pay attention and notice the opportunity or good idea.

To take immediate action at the right moment.

And to not give up once you encounter obstacles. But to persevere and keep on going until you reach the success you desire.

Do Positive Affirmations Really Work?

Positive affirmations really do work.

Positive affirmations will help you abandon limiting beliefs and self-sabotaging thoughts.

They will also help you gain belief in yourself and your abilities.

Positive affirmations will motivate you, give you inspiration and improve your problem-solving.

They will give you the courage and strength to solve your problems and do what you need to do to succeed.

What they don’t do is magically solve all your problems. Positive affirmations are not magic spells. You cannot lay in bed and repeat affirmations hoping something will happen. It just doesn’t work that way.

How do Positive Affirmations for Success Really Work?

The way positive affirmations work is that they change your inner dialogue. They replace negative self-talk with positive, encouraging, and motivating thoughts.

When you consider success as a series of deliberate actions that lead to a defined goal. Then you understand that the road to success is paved with actions. And what precedes action — a thought.

What is the first thought you have when you are faced with a challenge or a new task? Is it “I don’t know how to do this.” or is it “How will I do this?”.

This is what affirmations do. They change your thoughts from doubtful and limiting to solution and growth-focused.

Once you stop saying “I can’t do this.” or “I don’t know how to do this.” and start asking questions like “How can I do this?” and “What do I need to be able to do this?”, you will start coming up with answers and ideas.

If you constantly repeat I can’t then that will be your reality. Words I can’t give instruction to the brain to stop trying because it can’t be done. On the other hand, questions give instruction to the brain to find a solution.

To go from being I can’t person to being how can I person you need to imprint, deep into your unconsciousness, thoughts of competence.

When to do Positive Affirmations?

The best time to do your affirmations is when your mind is most relaxed. The time when your consciousness is just barely in control and your unconsciousness is taking over.

You know that moment when you wake up and you are not yet fully aware of where you are or what day it is. Bingo, that is the perfect moment to say your affirmations. Or when you are falling asleep but you’re still awake just completely relaxed and ready to drift off. That’s the time when you have direct contact with your unconsciousness.

Although these are the best times for your affirmations to sink in. You can also do them throughout the day.

You may notice that when you are fully conscious your mind will try to argue your affirmations. This is completely normal, but try to not get into the battle, instead just keep calmly repeating affirmations for a few minutes.

Another very important time to repeat your affirmations would be when you notice negative self-talk or default thoughts taking place.

How to Write Positive Affirmations for Success?

Affirmations work best when they are personal, specific, and resonate with your own core values.

Although I did include general examples of positive affirmations for success. It is best to write your own affirmations

Because success looks different for every person. What is success to me might not be success to you.

Take the time to define what success is to you and then set your goals. With your goals in mind, you can start writing affirmations that will help you reach those goals and achieve success.

To write your own personal positive affirmations for success follow these guidelines:
    • Start with I am, alternatively I can and I have are also good starting words.
    • Write in the present tense.
    • Write in a positive way.
    • Write what you want to be true as if it were already true.
    • Make your affirmations goal-oriented.
    • Be specific.
    • But also keep it brief.
    • Focus on actions you can take.
    • Focus on strengths and virtues that are important to you.

How to Believe in Affirmations?

To believe in the affirmations you’re saying, you need to understand one thing. Your thoughts create your reality. It’s nothing supernatural and it’s really quite simple.

The thoughts that occupy your mind, shape your mind. Your mind controls your actions. Your actions shape your life.

If your thoughts are negative, your actions, if there will be any, will be complete failures.

On the other hand, if your mind is filled with positive, goal-oriented thoughts, that is what your actions will reflect. It will become easy for you to find motivation, to be persistent, and to steadily move towards reaching your goal.

There is no magic behind affirmations, just good old faith in your own abilities.

When you repeat “I am successful.” you are giving your mind the instruction to consistently act in a way a successful person would act.

So don’t let doubt get in the way of believing in your affirmations. You are not lying to yourself. You are simply acknowledging your worth and eliminating self-doubt.

Through repetition of affirmations, you are giving yourself permission to do your best. You strengthen your resilience in the face of hardship. And you condition yourself to steadily move towards achieving success in life.
